The Democratic governors of New Mexico and Kansas have signed into law new bills boosting support for renewable energy production in their states. Bill Richardson signed a package of proposals for New Mexico, one of which expands an income tax credit for the installation of solar power systems in residences and businesses. Another provides an income tax credit for part of the construction costs of plants that generate electricity from solar or geothermal energy or coal-fired plants meeting certain emissions standards.
He also signed measures giving commercial and residential property owners new options for financing solar or other renewable energy power systems.
